If you were looking for odds on NFL for Sunday’s matchup between the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers using the Jets’ preseason record as your guide, you’d probably stay away from New York entirely. After all, a 0-4 record with less-than-legendary performances all around had left a sour taste in the mouths of Jets fans. But that was preseason. And in Week 1, the Jets proved that they’re ridiculously solid.
While it took until the fourth preseason game to get in the end zone, the Jets made it into the end zone on their first three scores last week, beating the Bills 48-28.
QB Mark Sanchez had a lot do with it. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 266 yards and three TDs. He threw just one interception. Two of the scoring throws he tossed fell into the arms of rookie Stephen Hill—and he was solidly impressive, with five catches for 89 yards. Oh, and he was sick during the game, too.
The Steelers are coming off a loss, but they finished in first place in 2011 in terms of overall defense. And the Jets are 0-2 against them in the postseason.
QB Ben Roethlisberger finished 22-of-40 for 245 yards and two TDs, but he tossed an interception late in the game.
Last week, Pittsburgh actually performed well against Denver, offensively speaking, moving the ball and eating up the time clock when it counted most. But the defense didn’t do to well facing Peyton Manning. Sports bettors can expect to see better defensive performance this week facing Sanchez.
