But that doesn’t mean you can’t get excited about what’s ahead for sports bettors. And what better way to get stoked for the 2012 NFL season than to relive last February’s Super Bowl?
So, here’s a quarter-by-quarter replay of what happened, in case you’re a sports bettor who made tons of cash betting on New York and you want to relive the magic of the best 60 minutes in sports (if you bet the farm on New England, feel free to skip this article).
1st Quarter
New York claims an early 9-0 lead, a score that excited Giants fan and caused mild heart attacks for those who took the Patriots when betting on Super Bowl. In case you forgot, at one point New York ran 19 plays to New England’s paltry one.
2nd Quarter
The Patriots brought out their defibrillators to resuscitate those stressed out NFL football bettors and general New England supporters, scoring 10 in the 2nd quarter through a Stephen Gostowski 29-yard field goal. With eight seconds to go in the half, Danny Woodhead’s 4-yard reception brought New England into the lead.
3rd Quarter
In the third, Brady kept killing it, netting five more completions. The Giants couldn’t touch New England’s QB. He even opened the second half with a nice 12-yard touchdown to Aaron Hernandez, pushing New England’s lead 17-9. But that didn’t last. Back to back field goals by Lawrence Tynes—one at 38 yards, one at 33—brought the Giants within spitting distance of tying things up.
4th Quarter
Let’s just skip to the only part of the 4th that matters. With 3:53 to go, New York grabbed the ball. On their first play, Manning tossed what can only be described as a bomb way down the left sideline, straight into the arms of Mario Manningham. The toss put the New York Giants at the 50, and they put all their effort into getting within the 10-yard line with just under one minute to go. The Patriots let them score a touchdown for six points in order to get the ball back with just enough time to head down the field—or at least that was the plan.
Unfortunately for those who had bets on the Super Bowl and took Tom Brady’s squad to win, that didn’t happen. But those who bet on the Giants made a killing as the Giants were crown the Super Bowl XLVI champs. Also, Giants fans can look at a good season this year after watching their team win over the Pats again in the preseason rematch game win.
So, after reading this, you’re either ridiculously stoked for the NFL regular season kickoff, or you’re pretty bummed about how the last Super Bowl unfolded. But don’t worry. For sports bettors, this year is way different.
