And that has to do with the fact that the NFL will get underway with replacement officials calling the games, and, perhaps, making NFL betting lines a little uncertain.
The NFL Referees Association argues that using replacement officials undermines the integrity of the game. Sure, it’s part negotiation strategy, but there is some truth to the concern of having inexperienced officials on the field. On the flipside, NFL referees were inexperienced at one point or another, so it’s somewhat of a moot point.
Personally, we think it’s an exciting time in the NFL, particularly because of one replacement official who’ll be calling games.
Shannon Eastin will be the first female in history to officiate an NFL game. The Referees Association isn’t happy with her, attempting to discredit her by casting a spotlight on the fact that she participated in the World Series of Poker. Even though the NFL has an anti-gambling policy for its officials, playing poker isn’t exactly like betting on a game you’re officiating.
And Eastin isn’t just some diehard, poker playing football fan who happens to be female. The 42-year-old has officiated the NCAA Division I-AA for four years running. And she’s an athlete, with six national judo championships under her belt.
To be honest, we think Eastin is more qualified than some of the blind officials who screw up calls and make rock-solid online football betting lines suddenly less lucrative for those who love to bet on football, online and off.
