2012 NFL Preseason Week 3: Green Bay Packers at Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals at PackersDate/Time: Thu, Aug 23 / 07:00:00 PM ET, Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio

The Green Bay Packers will travel to Ohio this Thursday night to face the Cincinnati Bengals for the first time since 2008. Thursday night game will be the 17th preseason meeting overall between the two teams, with the Bengals holding an 11-4-1 advantage in the all-time series. The first time these teams faced off in the preseason was back in 1970, when both teams tied 10-10. In their last preseason match held back in 2008, which marked QB Aaron Rodgers’ first NFL start (preseason or regular season), the Bengals won 20-17.

Now, normally the third preseason game is often considered as the most important because official starters are usually rested or see little action during the first two games of the post season. Green Bay desperately needs to put a good or convincing performance against the Bengals if they really want to earn their first preseason win of the year.

So far, the Packers suffered two setbacks this preseason; losing their initial game vs. the San Diego Charges 13-21 and then surprisingly falling 35-10 at home vs. the Cleveland Browns.

In their previous two preseason games, the Packers were far from being spectacular or even acceptable. What they shown so far this preseason falls short from a team currently listed as the second favorite squad to win Super Bowl XLVII according to oddsmakers. Future odds on NFL have the Packers listed at +500, right behind the overall favorite, the New England Patriots (+450).

The Packers will kick off the regular season on September 9th with a high voltage game vs. the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field. Early NFL betting odds show Green Bay as -6 favorite to win this game, with a total of 48 (-110 o/u).

Meanwhile, Cincinnati won their first two preseason games and looked pretty strong both offensively and defensively. In Week 1, the Bengals edged the New York Jets with a 17-6 home victory, and then defeated the Atlanta Falcons 24-19 last Thursday, August 16th.

In their second preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton was 8-for-14 for 125 yards and one TD. Wide receiver A.J Green finished the game with two catches for 59 yards and one touchdown scored in a beautiful move that resulted in a 50-yard play.
